When architect Tomáš Novák decided to leave his established architectural firm at the beginning of 2023 after 15 years and start his own studio, NOIS s.r.o., specializing in interior design, he didn’t have to think long about where to set up his new base of operations. Novák started out as a trained craftsman, but his fascination with design and ability to shape a space later led him from restoration and carpentry to studying interior design and furniture construction. “My craft and studies have given me a solid foundation, which I built on by collaborating with renowned architectural studios,” explains Novák. He has participated in a wide range of domestic and international projects, from residential buildings to hotel resorts in destinations ranging from Canada and the Caribbean to Europe and the Indian Ocean. “I specialize in complex furniture designs, seeking a balance between technical precision and esthetics,” he adds. NOIS thus combines interior design with craftsmanship and offers solutions that are both effective and exceptional.
“I started out completely on my own. All I needed was a computer, a phone, and a clean desk. I found the latter at Offices Unlimited’s coworking space. It was such a relief not to have to deal with operational issues and just focus solely on my work,” recalls the architect. “I gradually brought on a male colleague and a female colleague, and the coworking space became too small for us, or maybe we were too noisy for it,” he laughs. “We need to discuss proposals, look at samples, and talk on the phone with clients and suppliers—we realized it was time to move into our own office. As our business grows, so does the space we need. We recently moved from a small office to a larger one because our team will soon be joined by another member.
